Of course, education is important. As for the teaching skills which do not incorporate thinking skills. Today with the SOL's, teachers are very limited as to what they can teach. I am not making excuses, just stating as I see it. Oftentimes, it is not until one reaches the "real world" that those thinking skills develop. I am afraid that some folks on this forum have not had enough real world experiences yet.

Good point RT. I think that the SOLs actually severely hurt the ability to teach. It doesn't become learning, it becomes memorization.
There are ways of teaching students to think for themselves...Mkae them view things in more than 1 light. Esp. in English Class...Those SOLS (IMO) are easy to attain in 8, 11, and EOC Writing...That is a prime place to teach students to form their own views.
